Affordible Healthcare in Prince George

What do you consider healthcare?

What do I mean by ‘Affordable Healthcare’? It’s much different when you can afford it. You can go to a gym, but that’s a little unaffordable to many. The best Health Care is Self Care, but only when partnered with a family doctor or Walk In clinic professional staff. Gyms come with diverse pay rates, the most affordable is the Family Y. They are all great for socializing, which is part of a healthy life, but it’s not all of it. Do you lift weights at home, to avoid the gym? Great. They aren’t for everyone. You still have to put out for the equipment, it’s not free. Hey wait. There is a sidewalk out in front! Runners and shorts, it’s a great day to stroll. Is that considered Healthcare? OK you have to wear those items after buying them. Most hospital visits are free in Canada, certainly a family doctor or walk in clinic doctors are ‘free to us’ giving extreme healthcare. We even can can get a virtual doctor!

The Walk

Did you know that simply walking is a form of ‘affordable’ healthcare? Over 100 KM of sidewalk goes around the community. In addition there are several hundred KM more of nature trails. Travel a bit farther into the regional district surrounding the city, and newly developed accessible and inclusive parks exist in BC’s northern Forests. Prince George has several recreational ‘open air’ public recreational areas in diverse areas, for community health and wellbeing within walking, rolling distance from most homes. A walk in nature could save you lots in therapy bills.

Where to walk in Prince George

Connaught Hill, located beside city hall, in Prince George BC, is one park overlooking the downtown area and the Nechako River confluence. Another developed area in the downtown area is Lheidli Tenneh Memorial Park, found towards the Fraser River along 20th Ave and 17th Ave past Queensway St. It has a trail behind, fully accessible wrapping around Prince George’s backyard from The Rail and Train Museum, along the Nechako to the Fraser and along there, past the park way beyond. Ron Brent Park, beside a Senior’s complex and a historical city school and youth activity center at the corner of 20th and Victoria St has equipment and activity areas. Focused within the residential neighborhoods of Prince George are dog parks such as Duchess Park, which is an accessible play area for everyone. beyond the fenced off-leash dog area. Bigger dogs and smaller, more fragile breeds have seperate areas. Ginter’s Meadow is another canine friendly off leash area a little further from downtown

In Closing

Handy Circle exists to help you in many ways. We provide social events for your mental wellbeing as just one of the ways we help. We’ll help you prepare your taxes annually, empowering you to rise above your situations. If you have problems with your funding sources, provincially and federally, we do that too. We do so much more. We don’t ask for your money to provide services but if you wish to donate, we will not refuse that. It’s simple. Our Email address (hcrspg@gmail.com) accepts donations and tax receipts can be issued upon request. Some people have donated by mailing cheques to us at 101 490 Quebec Street V2L 5N5 too. Never send cold cash through the mail but you may drop it off and we’ll thank you. Walk downtown!

I'm finally here! I help multiple nonprofits with WordPress websites and Facebook pages, including Handy Circle's at https://www.facebook.com/HandyCircle/. Volunteer PG (https://volunteerpg.com/), the Carefree Transportation Society (the site is evolving and should be HTTPS soon, risk it at http//carefreesociety.org/). I also manage my own website at https://walknroll.info/. Give it a follow on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pgwalknroll/). Onward. This site will be changing thanks to Handy Circle's Lorraine Young, myself and Steph's blogging.
