The future of Health Care in Canada?

It isn’t as scary as its made out to be…

Health Care has changed over the decades many of us have been alive. Have you heard of ‘Virtual Health Care’ services? What is Virtual Health? What about Preventive Health, with Illumi Health and more! That’s helping beyond British Columbia and its often recommended by 811 (BC Nurses telehealth line) to people calling in from remote areas of the province. Many people, even those living in larger areas like Prince George and Vancouver have no family doctor. The end result of Virtual and Telehealth Care services are a means to an end for the shortages.

A Northern BC Health Care story

During the winter of 2025, one of Handy Circle‘s Staff slipped on a frozen sidewalk. After a night of pain, a call was made to 811 around 7am. The person had a cracked hip, but the assessment could not tell for certain. The person reported that that call made the journey on the gurney all the way home 3 days later much smoother, once 911 was called immediately after the nurse finished assessing within a half hour of talking. The staff of the ambulance didn’t have to ask questions about how the injury was caused. The doctors knew how to handle the person too, in advance of the arrival. X-rays were quickly done, confirming the crack. The injury largely healed within 4 weeks at home. Did you know BC has a procedure called Hospital at Home? That’s a thing now, to lesson the demand on hospital overcrowding.

In Closing

I’m writing this as I sit for 8 hrs. at the office located at 101-490 Quebec St in Prince George, waiting for phone calls (250-563-1852), emails (hcrspg@gmail.com) and a bi-weekly pay cheque. We’ve been back to the office about 3 weeks as of this post, employing 3 staff and several volunteers. So far, we’re planning an event or 2 to set up this summer and fall to come. I’m learning about BC Gaming Regulations and Grant writing. Keep watching the website and our Facebook page to keep informed of our upcoming activities. We’ll also post for volunteer help if we need it to staff those events and assist in the office. Stay tuned for much more excitement to come

I'm finally here! I help multiple nonprofits with WordPress websites and Facebook pages, including Handy Circle's at https://www.facebook.com/HandyCircle/. Volunteer PG (https://volunteerpg.com/), the Carefree Transportation Society (the site is evolving and should be HTTPS soon, risk it at http//carefreesociety.org/). I also manage my own website at https://walknroll.info/. Give it a follow on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pgwalknroll/). Onward. This site will be changing thanks to Handy Circle's Lorraine Young, myself and Steph's blogging.
