Walkers and rollers enjoying physical activity
What’s the Ideal Number of Daily Steps Based on Age? Here Are the Recommendations© Provided by Dagens.com (CA)
Simple Walking… I worked at the office at 490 Quebec St in Prince George. I would take a walk twice per shift. It would be around the 3-block radius of 5th Ave, to George St, and over to 4th Ave. supporting two downtown businesses at least once per shift along that block, side by side across from the Ramada Hotel. I would come up 4th past a vacant lot to businesses. Quite a few are Handy Circle’s neighbors, and there is one company across the way. This company still has a STOPGAP ramp we built a few years back with that program now restricted. They accept anyone in that store, even if mobility is limited on a device.
Walking is known as an inexpensive, easy, and highly beneficial form of light physical activity for health. But how far is the ideal distance to cover each day? It turns out that the recommended number of steps varies based on age and fitness goals, and is individual. How many steps can you do per day without feeling exhausted? If you don’t have a clue, buy (or download an app to a device) a wearable pedometer. According to Medical News Today and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, here are the recommended distances and ideal step counts by age group. If it’s been a while, work up to it gradually. If you have a condition, consult a doctor beforehand to be safe. Do what you can with walking and set a low daily goal to exceed. Mine is 5000 least per day, a 24-hour period. It has kept me mobile for 25 years now with my Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.
Handy Circle is struggling to survive presently. Our funds are drying up fast. Our office might be closing in a predictable future, but it will not affect your needed assistance if that happens. Tax season is over, but we are still willing to help you in any way we can. Do you have Questions about provincial support? Problems with federal payments? Questions or comments about the city of Prince George? Just want to buy us a coffee and chat about life? Call us! 250-563-1852 or email hcrspg@gmail.com and ask how you can help us to continue to help you. Thank you in advance.
