Makers Making Changes
What is this?
Makers Making Changes is a non-profit organization in Burnaby, BC, under the umbrella of the Rick Hansen Foundation. They take people with diverse abilities and empower them to rise above society’s description of ‘disability’. They are celebrating a decade of existence, creating all sorts of diverse items that others need to overcome their afflictions. Could you be among the Makers Making Changes? Read on.

Who are the change makers?
The short story is that they are volunteers with diverse abilities. They could be you if you have time, the skills to operate technology, and the desire to help. Most are visionaries. All want to help others rise above a society that wants to bring them down. It’s empowering to be helped and to be able to help yourself and others along the way to completing your project. The longer story is the diversity of the items created, many with a 3D printer. They have a long list of training programs for youth, electronic devices and more. They even host events. Perhaps you have a skill that can be promoted? Be the change society needs and promote your change-making program! The contact information is on-site for so much more.
Isn’t Handy Circle a change-maker?
In our history, quite a few years before the Change Makers were formed, when Vivian Canady and peers inspired the building at 490 Quebec Street and influenced the city to form the advisory council that became the Prince George Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusion, we could have been called change-makers. Even City Transit was improved through our hosting of the Accessible Transit Action Committee for over a decade, changing it for a short time to become the province’s most accessible transit line. The Committee in Victoria needs new members as of 2025. If we weren’t quite so busy planning the events at present that you want to attend, we could use our 3D printer and join their volunteers as an official Change Maker based here in Prince George.
