Mindfulness

What is Mindfullness?

Mindfulness is the practice of relaxing your mind, the short story. It can be as simple as closing your eyes and emptying your brain. That takes practice, as thoughts start to intrude the ‘quiet times’ you try to take. It does not need to be as extreme as the picture below, that’s a ‘master of self‘ with many years behind the exercise…. It’s practiced by religions worldwide. Most would not be wrong to call it a spiritual practice, but its not strictly a religious act. Religion has the better info on this practice, but even an atheist can do it for the benefits.

Extreme Mindfulness can resemble Meditation but it doesn't necessarily have to get that deep. That skill takes years to master. Original website for this image is on https://www.dreamstime.com/

Why would you start Mindfulness exercises?

There are so many benefits to Mindfulness . They include, but are not limited to, reducing stress and a better focus in life no mater how you spend your day. It’s affordable too, costing only time and space. The question for many is where do I steal the time from and where can I find the private space? I’m sure you can spare a few minutes at least, upwards of 15 min at home or work. Are you trying to end an addiction to Tobacco or other substances? It does help that, if you let it. As a British Columbian, any doctor or pharmacist can help too. Perhaps elsewhere in Canada too, just ask.

Where would you do the Mindfulness exercises?

You can do it in bed for a minute or 2 before facing your day. A smile upon waking changes the pattern of the day yet to occur. Beyond that, at any time during a day, any comfortable area where you feel secure. A relaxing chair at home with the TV off and no distractions is perfect, but 2 min in an office chair at work will be effective up to 15 on really stressful days, during a break is best. I’ve seen it done in a passenger seat on a trip. Anywhere comfortable you can lose focus with no distractions for up to 15 minutes is perfect.

In closing

We’re here at Handy Circle, preparing to return tax paperwork as I write this post, that clients have not picked up since last spring or earlier when we prepared their taxes. Expect a call from us (250-563-1852). If not picked up, we may return them to CRA to possibly mail them back to you. If you have an internet connection, the actual forms can be downloaded from CRA’s My Account if you need that info for any reason. Use a sign in partner to access, usually bank access codes but they have other options. All of Canada can use that service, but this paperwork is sensitive personal information we need to return.
